Video photograpy can be defined as capturing images on media such as video tape and other electronic devices and not on film.
Video photography or videography, is used to record an event that usually tells a specific story. Weddings are the most popular form of videography, followed by parties of all occasions, sports and documentaries and amateur movie making, to name a few.
A videographer must have a good eye for composition and what is relevant at the moment to make an interesting video. Composition of subjects and steady hands to prevent camera shaking are essential to good videography. Camera operators need good eyesight, artistic ability, and hand-eye coordination. They should be patient, accurate, and detail oriented. Camera operators also should have good communication skills and, if needed, the ability to hold a camera by hand for extended periods.
Freelance videographers would benefit from cultivating their business skills and videography talent. Due to the type of business it is, videographers need to submit bids and write contracts for even the smallest of their jobs. Not only do videographers need to write contracts with individuals, but permissions need to be gotten in the form of where they can shoot their video and when. Videographers need to know fair market value for their services and obtain copyright protection for their original creations.
Videographers can be employed in or use any number of media to show their work. They may also work in television and cable, work for series produced for education such as training videos and documentaries and also sporting events.
