Fine art film photography and fine art digital photography are art created and turned into prints and are of archival quality. This type of photography is created by artistic vision and planning. Fine art photography is the voice of the photographer in image form.

Fine art prints are reproduced in limited quantity. This is called a "Limited Edition Print". This art is shown in galleries and sold at art shows. Some photographers make coffee table books out of their fine art.

Fine art photography is not popular in the same way erotic photography or boudoir photography. Many photographers call their erotic photography fine art photography when a distinction can be made between the two. Fine art photography is made in the style of the masters of traditional art and of the masters of photographic art, keeping in mind the vision of the photographer as well as fine art sensibility.

Photojournalism has become in its own way fien art photography for its honest protrayal of the lives of the subjects it documents.
