Digital Photography
Digital photography differs from film photography in that regular SLR cameras capture an image and that image is imprinted on a dry gel surface (film) and has to be developed into a print. Digital photography is light captured in a camera by sensors with the image immediately seen on a screen on the back of a camera, and then accepted or rejected by the photographer before being committed to a memory card and uploaded to a computer.
With film photography there is a period where one has to wait. Wait for the roll of film to be complete, wait for the film to be developed, wait to get the film and then finally see the results. Digital photography has none of that waiting. A photographer, be they a professional or an amateur, can see the results of their work immediately and judge for themselves how acceptable it is. The only waiting period for a digital photographer is that they have to wait to upload the image to the internet or to a computer, but if a laptop computer is available, even that isn't necessary.
For professional digital photographers, income can be earned easily if the clientele is there. Investing in portable as well as home computer equipment to upload and then alter the image so its more desirable and then print with an inkjet printer or just upload to the world wide web. It all can take less than 2 hours.
Digital photography pictures, or images, are created from pixels. Pixels look like tiny dots, but are actually an exact image of the context in which they are created. Pixels make up an image in computers or, in this case, digital cameras. Digital photography had a great use beofre the public came to know it as it does today. Astronomers used digital photography in the 1980's to get information about space and planets. The total of pixels in most astrological tools exceeds billions, as that many pixels are needed to photograph such dark spaces and create an image large enough to be useful to create a accurate map.1 million pixels makes up a megapixel. Pixel amounts also determine how well an uploaded image prints. Proper printing of an image usually requires at least 2 megapixels.
